About Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR)
Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR)
If you forget your PennKey password, you can reset it online if you have chosen to enroll in the Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR) application. SSPR is Penn’s modern, secure, easy-to-use app for resetting your PennKey password – using only your pre-registered personal (non-Penn) email address and cell phone number.
There are three functions associated with SSPR:
- The Enrollment/Update function allows you to enroll in SSPR. You must supply a personal (non-Penn) email address and cell phone number.
- The Reset Known Password function is used to reset your PennKey password online when you know your current password.
- The Reset Forgotten Password (Recovery) function is used to reset your PennKey password online if you forget it. You'll be sent a password reset link to your pre-registered personal (non-Penn) email address, and you'll also receive a text message on your pre-registered cell phone number to verify that a password reset link was sent to you.
Should I enroll in SSPR?
SSPR is recommended for all users since:
- you can enjoy "anytime, anywhere" convenience of resetting your password online
- the password reset experience is easier compared to the previous password recovery system
- resetting your password via SSPR is secure since the reset link is sent only to your pre-registered personal (non-Penn) email address and you get a verification text to your pre-registered cell phone number whenever you request a password reset link
SSPR is not available to individuals with Non-Persistent PennKeys.
Enrolling in SSPR
To enroll, log in to the Enrollment/Update function using your PennKey username and password to authenticate. Follow the on-screen instructions. You will need to provide a personal (non-Penn) email address and a cell phone number.
